If you have been reading and following my blog for a while, you have probably noticed that I work for a cruise line in their entertainment department. I have many posts about traveling and the wonderful ups and downs of ship life. Even though I am currently at home waiting for a ship assignment, I seem to be in a little bit of a funk. I think this "funk" is the part of ship life that no one really talks about.
Your contract is anywhere from 6-9 months and during that time, you work, eat, sleep and breathe with hundreds/thousands of people from around the world. You share a room with someone, you eat all your meals with them, you party after work with them ... you're never alone, bottom line. For the duration of your contract, you are ALWAYS on the go. You don't have a day off and on the hours that you have off, you're either laying on the beach or exploring your port of call, OR catching up on sleep or laundry. These people that you're with become your family and they will know more about you than your actual family does.
The end of your contract is always the most difficult because it means saying goodbye to people who you more than likely will never see again. That thought is actually more terrifying than it sounds. I am lucky, however, that I still keep in touch with many people I have met and they continue to be my close friends. The part that no one really talks about is trying to adjust to home life. Everyone is excited you're home and you feel like a celebrity for maybe a week and then once all the "welcome home" parties are done, everyone goes back to their day to day lives and then ... there's you.
It's difficult to talk to people about your experience because the majority of it is "you had to be there". They won't understand a word of what you're saying and unless they have lived the ship life themselves, they never get it. Adjusting to being home was easy the first few times, but here I am, a little over a year later, and I am not adjusted, AT ALL. I still find it difficult to sleep with the ship rocking me to sleep, I still CANNOT get used to the 9-5 jobs and I am longing for the feel of salt water and sand. I think that's why I'm in the funk that I am in ... I'm still not adjusted.
I have thought about going back and right now, I am waiting for a ship assignment. But when that time comes to pack up and leave again, can I actually do it? To everyone it seems like such an easy decision to make, especially with winter right around the corner, but like I said, if you haven't done it, you don't understand.
Everyone thinks working and living on "vacation" is fun and glamorous, but no one ever really talks about the struggle of afterwards - trying to make home feel like home again.

sunday currently - august 28 v.51
It's amazing what kind of takes a back seat when life gets in the way. If only I had better time management skills.
C U R R E N T L Y ...
READING: I finished Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter and it was probably one of the best books I have read. If you are looking for a book that you won't be able to put down, this is it!
WRITING: This Sunday's edition of TSC
MUSIC: Song(s) of the moment - As You Are by Mike Posner
LISTENING: To the fan in my room. I have NO IDEA why the sound of a fan is so peaceful.
GUILTY PLEASURE: This last little while I have been okay in regards to "guilty pleasures" but I think I would have to go with iced coffee
THINKING: That I need to get out of this funk. Ugh, I don't know what is wrong with me but I have been in this little funk lately and I have no idea why.
NAIL COLOR: This week will be Quiet Time by MAC

hyc day 12.
DAY 12 - WHATS IN YOUR BAG
Hmmm let's see ...
* Vera Bradley wallet
* Kate Spade 2017 agenda
* A couple pens
* Sephora make up bag with my concealer and lippie color of the day
* Gum
* Hairbrush and comb
* Phone charger
* Nail file
* Some "lady" things
* Bottle of water - whenever I leave the house
* Receipts
I try to keep my bag clean and tidy, but as all the women know, easier said than done.
hyc day 11.
DAY 11 - YOUR SIBLINGS
Well what can I say about them ... I have a younger brother, two older brothers, a step brother and step sister. My younger brother is two years apart, 25 years old and I honestly wish I could be more like him sometimes. He works a contract position in the winter and takes the summer off. Sounds good to me right? Nah, I'd be so bored! My older brothers are both in their late 30's. One is the bar manager at The Keg and the other one is a dealer at the casino down here AND just had a baby girl. My step brother and step sister are both younger and I don't see them very often, but we get a long great. I do have the world's greatest siblings, even though sometimes I wouldn't leave us alone in a room together haha

hyc day 10.
DAY 10 - WHAT YOU WORE TODAY
Sundays are usually my "lazy days" so I stay in a comfortable pajama pant and a tee shirt. I know, not really exciting ...
hyc day 09.
DAY 09 - YOUR BELIEFS
* Do unto others as you'd have done to you
* Karma, karma and more karma
* If you keep doing the same thing you constantly apologize for, you really don't mean it
* Whatever energy you put out to the universe, is the energy you'll get back
* If you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life
* Things happen for a reason
sunday currently - august 7 v.50
Happy Sunday everyone! I can't believe this is my 50th post of TSC. Well, maybe I can, it is one of my favorite posts, just wish the link up was still around.
C U R R E N T L Y ...
READING: I FINALLY made it to the library the other day (after a very frustrating morning!) and it felt kinda nice to be back. I'm reading Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter. I've heard so much about this book and I have been waiting forever to get my hands on it and I am so happy the library had it. I cannot put this book down, oh my goodness.
WRITING: This Sunday's edition of TSC and a few more blog posts today
MUSIC: Song(s) of the moment - Still hung up on Can I Get A Witness by SonReal
LISTENING: To the ballgame on television. As much as I love baseball, I am ready for this season to be over. It seems to be the only thing on the television in this house ....
GUILTY PLEASURE: This week it's been Chipotle thins by Tostitos. If you haven't tried these out yet, you are MISSING OUT! Should have picked up more than one bag but I never thought they would be THAT good
THINKING: This is going to be an interesting week but I am kind of excited, kind of nervous, to see how it plays out
NAIL COLOR: For The Twill of It by Essie but since it's Sunday, it changes to a new color and I have no idea what that color is going to be. I am thinking something along the lines of a Tiffany shade of blue
DRINK: Starbucks iced coffee - need to stop!!
FOOD: Just finished a bowl of Lucky Charms. Even though I say this ALL the time, tomorrow is the last day of eating like this so I haven't really been that strict on what I am eating
SMELLING: Laundry. I think this should be the national smell of Sunday's
HOPING: For a good week. I start my new job Tuesday and I am excited and nervous at the same time to see how it goes. Even though training is 2-3 months, I should have a feeling about how its going to go after the first week. AND, the fact that I get my schedule a month in advance so I can plan well in advance when it comes to workouts and meal prepping
TV SHOW: I am thinking I need a new show. I go between Grey's and Law and Order because I dont want to finish where I am at with either of them because I have no access to the next season. However, we recently got CraveTV so maybe I can find the next season(s) on there or a new show. OOh, just remembered about Salem Season 2! Maybe I'll start that.
WEARING: Pajama pants & a tee shirt
LOVING: It's almost Halloween time! I was thinking of my costume last night and I am torn between three different versions of Harley Quinn or Beetlejuice. I think that Harley Quinn will be over done this season due to the movie just being released but we'll see how "fit" I am around that time HAHA. But I am excited for the pumpkin patch, pumpkin carving, pumpkin flavoured everything and for decorating the house. We don't usually decorate the house because we're all usually working, but this year, I am going to do it :)
WISH LIST: For just one night where I can wake up feeling rested and not tired
NEEDING: To get back into my routine. I know I've been saying this over and over again, but it's so important to me, but it's also the most difficult thing for me to get started AND to stay with
BLESSING: Everyone and everything that I have in my life
FEELING: Like it's time for a routine again!

EXCITEMENT: For HALLOWEEN!

dear august sarah. updated.
Dear August Sarah,
Here are the plans I have for you.
1. Do a complete 180 in regards to lifestyle - back to gym routine, 80/20 eating, mentally/emotionally
This was difficult for me as August wasn't the best month for me in any of these categories.
2. Read more, for real this time.
I did read a few books, but not as much as I would have liked to.
3. Become a BB coach.
It's not something I decided on in August only because I am not sure what is going on with a few things in my life. Once I know for sure, than a decision will be made.
4. Save $$ to do the Ultimate Reset Cleanse.
Still working on this one ....
5. SAVE MONEY!!!
I have to say, August was a good month for me. I didn't overspend or buy anything that I didn't need.
6. Start your new job with an open and positive mindset.
I will say that I definitely did, but I will admit that being there for over a month, the whole positive mindset is becoming a little bit difficult.
At the end of the month, I'll revisit these six plans and see how I did with them. We'll then see what I have lined up for September.
Good luck August Sarah!

DAY 08 - A MOMENT
I'm not really sure what is meant by this days topic but this is a saying that I fully believe in 100%.
hyc day 07.
DAY 07 - MY BEST FRIEND
I don't know what to say about my best friend that someone wouldn't say. Yes, they're always there for me, we have known each other for years, we've been through thick and thin and we both know things about each other NO ONE else knows. Sometimes my best friend and I don't talk all the time and sometimes when we do, it's a very quick message. BUT, we both know that no matter what or no matter what is going on in our separate lives, we will always be there for each other no matter what at a drop of a dime. She's helped me through more things than I can count and I wouldn't have been able to pull through half that sh** without her.
five on friday.
Head on over to A. Liz Adventures and join the FOF link up!
ONE
48 days until Fall. As much as I love the summer and everything that comes along with it, I'm over it, and ready for the Fall.
TWO
Since it's August, it means that I can now start using my Kate Spade Agenda! I usually purchase a Lilly Pulizter agenda, but this year I felt like switching it up. I was also looking into an Erin Codren planner, but for some reason, the Kate Spade kept coming back to me. It was between the one pictured below or the black/white "Sephora looking" one annddddd I went with this one ...
THREE
I wasn't even going to post this but it made me laugh SO hard, I just can't help it. Does anyone else watch MTV's Scream? If you do, than you'll understand. If you don't, it pretty much follows the movies Scream but in a tv show format. Anyway, just had an Unknown call me and all that ran through my mind was the show! Oh goodness ...
FOUR
In the last few days, there have been a certain number of situations that have made me test my patience and then I ran across this ...
FIVE
I know everyone and anyone is probably talking about this this week, so I apologize, but I just need to FINALLY say my opinion, since I haven't yet .... Does anyone else NOT like the new IG story feature? It takes me long enough to go through my SC feed, then I go to IG and it takes about an hour more to go through those. Think we just need to stick to one social media platform and stop trying to make everything the same. For me, I'm pro SC 100%.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone! Let me know of any fun and exciting plans :)

DAY 06 - YOUR DAY
Aside from it being very muggy and hot, today was an alright day. My legs are still killing me and it kept me up last night, so I'm a bit tired today. First on my agenda was stopping at the bank, which took forever! There used to be 3 branches within this side of town, and now they only have ONE! WHY? Do they not realize how many people live in this city that bank with these people? The line up was literally out the door. Anyways, moving on .. next up was stopping into work to sign a few papers and then I ventured over to Chapters & Starbucks. I needed to pick up a new 2017 agenda and I fell in love with a beautiful Kate Spade agenda - so happy! Next ... Costco. They were slacking on the samples today haha ... After that, went to Sobey's and then home. A lot of running around today and now I am done and ready to relax for the night, MAY get my butt to the gym and then catch up on Scream and maybe watch a movie or two.
hyc day 05.
DAY 05 - YOUR DEFINITION OF LOVE
This is a difficult one as I think there are many definitions/types of love. The love I have for my family is going to be different than the love I have for my friends, so on and so forth. Love, in my opinion, is very hard to define and I don't really think I have a specific definition for it. You could say, if you wanted to, that it's a very strong and intense feeling for someone or something. Then again, I don't fully agree with that because my parents will always love each other, even though they're divorced and remarried, so that goes against that definition.
so what wednesday [19]
This week, I'm saying SO WHAT if ...
➡ I have probably consumed more iced coffee than any normal person
➡ I am KINDA (just kinda) over this hot and muggy weather. I LOVE summer, don't get me wrong, but it's the hot, humid and sticky air when there's no breeze that I am over! Today was the first day where I said I was ready for Fall
➡ I am overly excited that I can start using my Kate Spade agenda since it is now August
➡ I'm over baseball season!
➡ I really DO NOT like this new IG update with stories. Seriously, we need to stick to one platform and that's it
➡ I am really looking forward to the movie Suicide Squad coming out
What are you saying SO WHAT to this week?
