hyc day 03.

Even though we all say this about our parents, mine are pretty much the best. Unfortunately, they separated when my brother and I were in high school but as I grew up, I realized how much of a good decision that was. It never really "hit me" or bothered me then like it did until a few years later. My mom used to work for the City and the Mayor and now she's "retired", as she was able to take early retirement. I say it that way because she still goes in for consultations and for some work, so I don't think she's really retired. My dad used to work for the Casino in town and he's actually retired. Since I live with my Dad, it's nice having him home now but then again at the same time, it has it's downs as well. My mom lives with her new husband - we won't get into that story either.

My parents are both some of the most supportive parents and will stand behind me with whatever decisions I make. Yes, of course, sometimes it's all tough love and we will argue, but they only want the best for me. And when push comes to shove, they're always there.

hyc day 02.

Oh goodness, this is a long story but I won't go into detail BUT it all started when I was supposed to end up with his best friend and we ended up falling for each other. I was in grade 12 and I never thought anything would come from this, but it lasted about 3 years and I still consider him to be one of my good friends. I learned a lot from dating him and we did end on good terms, unfortunately, but we just grew apart and wanted our lives to head in different directions.

sunday currently - july 31 v.49

It's the last Sunday in July and let me tell you, July was not a good month for me. Here's to hoping August is better.

C U R R E N T L Y ...

READING: I haven't been reading at all lately and I miss my books. I missed being so into a book that's all I can think about and I can't wait to pick up where I left off. I should really start it up again ....

WRITING: This Sunday's edition of TSC. PS - Check out my post Dear July Sarah as I have updated it since it's the end of the month. Tomorrow I will write my Dear August Sarah post.

MUSIC: Song(s) of the moment - Down In Flames by Daughter Jack and Can I Get A Witness by Sonreal

LISTENING: To the ballgame on television

GUILTY PLEASURE: This week it's been by mixed bag of Bulk Barn candy. I remember going there and they used to be .88 cents, NOW, they're $1.25. Wow, talk about changing times.

THINKING: As I mentioned in a previous post, I have decided to stay home and get thing back on track this time. So now, it's thinking about how I am going to do that and just ready to have a good routine agian.

NAIL COLOR: Nothing right now because I have a few interviews lined up. Hopefully soon, I can start it up again.

DRINK: Decaf orange pekoe tea

FOOD: Nothing yet. This weather hasn't been nice to my head and whenever I get these types of headaches, I don't really eat much

HOPING: To get one of the two jobs I am hoping for. One I would like more than the other, but they both have their pros and cons so either one, I'd be okay with.

TV SHOW: Keeping on with Grey's but has anyone seen Stranger Things on Netflix. OMG HURRY UP SEASON 2. I cannot believe how quickly that show had me hooked and how good it was. Once Grey's is done, I don't really know what show to start watching. Any suggestions?

WEARING: Pajama pants & a baseball style tee shirt

LOVING: That it's almost time for Fall weather. As much as I love the summer and the heat, I'm just ready for some cooler weather because, let's be honest, Fall wardrobes are pretty much the best. Especially for someone like me who HATES showing their legs LoL

WISH LIST: For THAT call.

NEEDING: To get back into my gym routine. Made it back on Friday night and it felt AMAZING, especially the next day. I was planning to go back last night for leg day, but this headache is driving me insane so I decided not to go.

BLESSING: Everyone and everything that I have in my life

FEELING: Like it's time for a routine again!

CLICKING: Keyboard

EXCITEMENT: For some Fall weather and everything that comes along with the Fall - Halloween, Pumpkin Patches, PSL from SB and the wardrobes!

hyc day 01

If you've been following me, you've probably read my "About Me" page so I will try and keep this different than that.

I'm 5'1, so anything on the top shelf is a no go for me.

I have an addiction, probably borderline severe addiction, to caffeine, especially iced coffee.

I have to have pizza at least once a week.

I can purchase shoes from the kids section. YES when it comes to running shoes, NO when it comes to finding heels.

I can't leave home without bringing something to drink with me.

I can binge watch crime shows until the cows come home.

I hate rom-coms and LOVE horror movies.

Sour skittles, sour keys and chewy SweetTarts - major food groups.

Banana's NO, Banana bread YES, Carrots NO, Carrot Muffins YES - Weird I know.

I prefer the night over the day.

I cannot comfortably go to sleep unless I check my surrounding area for bugs/spiders.

I'm a natural blonde even though I haven't had blonde hair for probably 5+ years.

Bottom line .. I'm weird and I embrace it!

haven't disappeared.

I know, I know .. I keep saying I'll get better with this whole blogging things and then something comes up and it takes a back seat. I have been THE MOST stressed out the last few weeks and I have been dealing with all that wonderful (not!) stuff, so I apologize for not getting on here more.

So, UPDATE - I will not be heading back out to shiplife, for now. A few things have come up and for some personal reasons, right now, it is not in my best interest to go. It has been a roller coaster of a few weeks and I had at least two break downs yesterday, but I finally made the decision, even though it wasn't an easy one. I have to stop trying to please other people and stop living in fear of what they're going to say or what they're going to do. It's MY life and I have to live it.

Aside from that - Have you guys seen or heard of these writing prompt journals? One person I follow on IG has one and she keeps posting her daily "writings" and it seems like so much fun. While on Pinterest, I sort of found a writing prompt post and I thought it would be a great idea so that you guys can learn more about me, have something to read everyday AND it gives me a reason to keep to my goal of getting on here more. It's actually entitled the Heck Yeah Tumblr Challenge. Not sure if you can find it on google, but if for some reason, you'd like me to post the entire photo, let me know and I will do so. I will entitle each post HYC Day "Whatever".

Keep your eye out for Day one! :)

After a few months of waiting and being very persistent with emails, I FINALLY have a ship assignment. My fingers have never been more crossed that things DO NOT change and nothing changes because I really don't think I could handle it. Waiting for this assignment has been very stressful, for more reasons than one, and it's been a long time coming.

WELL ... I am heading out to California on the 30th for six months!! I am joining the Imagination which travels to Catalina and Ensenada. It wasn't the ship or ports that I truly wanted but due to certain situations, it was the best for me. If you have read my On The Map page, you know California is number one of my travel bucket list. Being able to be there for 6 months makes me SO happy! I won't be able to experience ALL of California like I would on a normal vacation, but anything is better than nothing right. I can still see the Hollywood sign - yes I know, typical tourist thing!

My nerves are starting to kick in already - ugh, what is wrong with me? I think because it's been so long since I've been out on a contract, it's like starting over again, which is why I don't mind having the ship I've been assigned. It will get me back into the swing of things better so I can concentrate on completing my final senior Tier in hopes of getting better placements. The one thing I am NOT looking forward to is the flight. I am a HORRIBLE flyer and I do not like flying in the least bit, so this is going to be a very long flight. I also made the mistake of checking the National Hurricane Center weather and it doesn't look nice out that way, but then again, that's what you get when you work on a ship in the middle of the ocean in the middle of hurricane season.

So now it's just planning and getting things organized and let's HOPE this time around I can be packed on time!

so what wednesday ... on a thursday [18]

Sorry I've been MIA the last few days, I've been trying to get over a wicked migraine. It would be really nice if Mother Nature would co-operate and give us these "massive storms" she's been calling for, my head would really appreciate it. Anyways, here is my SWW post a day late.

This week, I'm saying SO WHAT if ...

➡ I have been watching The Ghostbuster and Ghostbuster II the last few days. I'm not sure if I want to see the new one or not because sometimes you shouldn't, and can't, touch a classic movie.

➡ My televisions never changes from AMC

➡ I FINALLY have a ship assignment. Read my next post for information.

➡ I may or may not have ALMOST ate an entire tupperware of strawberries last night. At least they're healthy for you.

➡ I have recently discovered some true colors of people who I thought I could consider good friends. It's nothing like times of trouble to bring out the real and true personality of people. As much as I should be sad and upset about it, I'm not really because it's something I was expecting and waiting for.

➡ I have a caffeine addiction, mostly in the form of coffee

What are you saying SO WHAT to this week?

GUILTY PLEASURE: This past week it has been SweetHeart Chewy candy ... ugh, so addicting.

five on friday

Write down five random things from your week - thoughts, events, photos - and then head on over to A Liz Adventures and join the link up. There you will be able to find other bloggers and read about what they're saying today.

Unfortunately, I have discovered who some of my true friends really are this week. I haven't been in the greatest of places lately, for more reasons than one, and their reactions have really let their true colours shine through. Oh well, we can't win them all I guess.

It's supposed to be a stormy weekend and let me tell you, for someone who doesn't like storms, I am so looking forward to hearing the thunder and seeing the lightening. There's just something about storms that makes me want to curl on the couch, good book in hand and a cup of tea. Anyone else feel that way?

Finally brought my rear end into the gym this week. Ugh, when you have haven't been in so long, getting back is the most difficult thing in the world. Last night I wasn't really feeling the gym, so I did a nice at home workout instead. Any workout is better than none at all right? Today was also "weigh in/measurement" day and surprisingly, the majority of them went down by half or one inch, so I wasn't upset or disappointed like I thought I would have been.

Has anyone discovered Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition foundation? PURE BLISS. I received a sample and I totally wish I bought this one over Laura Mercier. Next time!

Funny story of the week - Our crazy neighbours are babysitting a friend's dog and I guess they went inside to grab the dog's water, went back out and he was gone. Now they think that someone stole the dog! Haha, WHAT? No one is going to walk into someone's back yard in broad daylight when everyone is outside to "steal" a dog. Pretty sure the dog ran off but apparently, to them, THAT is the crazy theory! LoL Oh what a neighbourhood I live in.

Enjoy your weekend everyone! Let me know in my comments if you joined the link up so I can come by and read your FOF.

so what wednesday [17]

This week, I'm saying SO WHAT if ...

➡ I am kind of getting tired of people complaining that it's "too hot!". Well, it's July, it's supposed to be hot. And when the winter weather arrives, they'll be complaining that they want the hot summer back.

➡ I am getting VERY frustrated with waiting for this ship assignment.

➡ I have been living off of tea lately.

➡ I have legit been "shaking my head" at certain people these last few days.

➡ I have found out the true colours of someone who I thought was a good friend. Oh, was I wrong.

➡ I feel the need to scream "leave me alone" at the top of my lungs lately.

What are you saying SO WHAT to this week?

ten things.

Ten random facts about the author (me!) that you may not know.

1. I have to have dinner anywhere from 6pm - 8pm. I think ship life played an important factor in making me that way. Meals are only served during certain hours on board ships so changing that habit once back home, easier said than done.

2. I could live off of soda, strawberries, iced coffee, dill pickle popcorn and sour skittles. Not healthy, I know.

3. I can't sleep without the fan in my room.

4. There are a couple of movies I could watch all day, everyday and could never get bored of them.

5. I believe people when they say they can change, I trust people too easily and I believe everyone has a kind heart. However, I make the same mistakes over and over again when it comes to these things. You think I would have learned my lesson the first time.

6. I truly believe that being on or near the ocean has many positive benefits that affect our well being. I cannot wait to get back.

7. I can never go into Wal Mart or Target and purchase JUST what I went in for. I always leave with many other things that were not on my list. You can relate, right?

8. I have to have at least one tea or coffee a day.

9. I have to paint my nails a different colour every week.

10. I hate wearing jeans.

dear july sarah. - updated.

The idea came from Lauren over at  Cammellia Vignettes.

Dear July Sarah,

Here are the plans I have for you.

  1. Start going to bed earlier and waking up earlier. This has probably been the most difficult one for me. Going to bed earlier hasn't been the issue, it's definitely waking up. I am NOT a morning person and I struggle SO much with getting up before a certain time.
     2.  Get back into your gym routine. As I mentioned before, July has been a horrible month and that   inlcudes my workouts and eating. I have been back randomly, but definitely not back into my routine.

     3.  Drink more water. I think this is the only goal I have followed. I have laid back A LOT on the soda, which has been difficult, but I have definitely been drinking more water and non soda things.

     4.  Read more. Yup, never happened.

     5.  Blog more aside from your usual topics certain days of the week. I think this was the second goal I followed, just a bit. I think I started out strong and then since certain things happened, it slacked a bit. Now, I have my writing prompt challenge, so it will help me stick to this goal next month.

     6.  Stop being so negative. Nope, honestly, as much as I wanted this to happen, it's probably not going to happen for a while. I get into these "funks" where I will start thinking about the positive and then something will happen and it will throw me off course and back to the negativity. Maybe one day ...

At the end of the month, I'll revisit these six plans and we'll see how I did with them and then we'll see what I have lined up for August.

Good luck July Sarah!

sunday currently - july 3 v.47

Happy long weekend everyone! Whether you're in Canada and already celebrated Canada Day or you're in the USA celebrating July 4th, I hope it's a good one! I really do miss this link up and if I had any idea of how to create one, I think I would. Here is the first July edition of TSC ....

C U R R E N T L Y ...

READING: Still haven't picked up an actual book. I've been reading a lot of blogs lately though, that counts as something right?

WRITING: This Sunday's edition of TSC

MUSIC: Song(s) of the moment - Me Too by Meghan Trainer

LISTENING: To the baseball game on the tv

GUILTY PLEASURE: This past week it's been my chocolate Oreo thins and Lucky Charms

THINKING: 1. Why do people think it's okay to ignore you for months on end and then just randomly show up again and pretend that nothing happened? 2. Why do people think you do nothing but sit next to your phone? If I don't answer a text message or a snap, it means I'm busy. 3. I NEED MY SHIP ASSIGNMENT. 4. Why do I constantly have mixed feelings about heading back to sea? ...

NAIL COLOR: Domestic Goddess by Sephora by O.P.I

DRINK: Decaf orange pekoe tea

FOOD: Just finished a bowl of Lucky Charms and a greek yogurt

HOPING: For a ship assignment ASAP please & hopefully the ship options are good

TV SHOW: Currently watching Grey's Anatomy BUT after a VERY emotional season finale of season 8 and beginning of season 9, I don't think I can watch anymore. For those of you who have watched Grey's, Shonda Rhimes needs to STOP taking my characters. Yes, I said MY characters. After 8 seasons, they seem like they're apart of my life (hahah I'm joking!) and they need to stay. I also don't think I want to cry anymore. BUT, I watched a few episodes of Bloodline last night as that's another show on my list. I just needed to take a break from crying

WEARING: Black comfy capris and a baseball style shirt

LOVING: The weather lately. I love how people are complaining that it's way too hot outside ... uhm, hello, it's July, it's supposed to be hot. But when the snow is on the ground and it's -30 outside, they want the hot weather back

WISH LIST: For someone to come and clean my room and do my laundry

NEEDING: To clean my room and do laundry ... never ending

BLESSING: Everyone and everything that I have in my life

FEELING: Tired. I went to bed last night at 1:30am and laid in bed wide awake until 6:00am. When I finally fell asleep, I was up every hour, tossing and turning ... was not a good night

CLICKING: Keyboard

EXCITEMENT: Finding out my ship and even though it will become hectic full of packing and getting everything in order, I will know when I am leaving and where I will be going.

Enjoy your long weekend! If you have any fun or exciting stories .. send them my way! :)

Friday, July 1, 2016

five on friday - Canada Day Edition.

This Friday's edition of FOF is a special one - first Friday of July (one of my favorite months), Canada Day and a long weekend for my American friends/family as they celebrate July 4th. I'm linking up with A Liz Adventures for this weeks edition and so should you! :)

If you have been following this blog for a while you know that I took up the hobby of "adult coloring" a while ago and it became one of the best stress relievers ever. It has definitely been put on the back burner the last few months, BUT, all my supplies and utensils came out of retirement the other day. I forgot how much I missed coloring. Even though at times it can be it's form of stress because something didn't turn out the way I wanted it to turn out or because the design takes FOREVER. My current work in progress is a two page design from Johanna Basford's Enchanted Forest and I have been working on it for two days. ALSO - I am so excited that Johanna is coming out with two new books. A magical jungle and a Christmas book.

What happened to June? It was June 1st and then I blinked and it is now July 1st? My goodness, before we know it .. ugh, never mind, I'm not going to say the dreaded S word .. *Shutter*

I had a little bit of a worry this week when I found out our mail delivery system, Canada Post, may be possibly going on strike as of tomorrow. The only reason I was worried was because the original medical documents that I NEED to board the ship are sent in the mail and if they went on strike, who knows how long my medical would stay in the system. Luckily, thank goodness, they arrived in the mail on Wednesday and that's one less "worry" I checked off my list. If they did go on strike and I didn't have my medical, I'm pretty sure I would NOT have been a happy camper.

Has anyone else been enjoying Shark Week just as much as I have?? It just makes my need and want to cage dive with sharks that much stronger.

As I am sitting here writing this, all the windows in the house are open so there's a nice breeze because it's way too windy outside since it's about to storm and I just think it's so relaxing and that breeze feels amazing. Does anyone else think that?

Enjoy your long weekend, have fun and BE SAFE! :)
