Staying Put ...

... for now.

If you guys have been reading some of my posts lately, you may have seen me mention something about having to make up my mind whether or not I was going to stay home or head out for another contract. Last week, I decided that for right now, it was in my best interest to stay home and not head out. I was supposed to fly out to New Orleans yesterday but after being offered a full time job in MY FIELD and having that "it feels right" feeling, I knew I had to stay.

We are allowed to take up to six months off, so I haven't made a permanent decision on whether or not I'll be hanging up my flippers and laying down the anchor at home. I'm just going to see how things go at home and then re-evaluate in a month. It's a little bit difficult to find a full time job in my field around my home town. All the jobs are in places where I am not within driving distance or am I ready to make the move yet. I am a firm believer that things happen for a reason and I think that is why this is happening .. sort of like, a sign, so to speak.

Last week was my first full week and it went great. The hours are 6:30 am - 3:30 pm so even though my alarm goes off at 4:30 am and I am NOT a morning person, I get to spend my days with dogs and cats AND I get evenings off. I'm also starting to fall into a routine which I am LOVING. Get up, breakfast, ready for work, go to work, go to the gym right after work, home, eat, shower and bed ... REPEAT. Working on a ship, you had a little routine, but things would never seem to work to your advantage and something would always come up. Not like that can't happen on land, but it's so much nicer knowing what you're doing so you can plan around it. This routine is also nice since I have started back into the gym and clean eating, it just makes it that much easier.

I feel a bit better now knowing that I have somewhat of an idea of what I am doing, I just need to make a final decision within the next month so we'll see how things go because if there is one thing I learned from ship life, just go with the flow ...
